Archie Williams Scholarship
Archie Williams was a teacher at Drake for 21 years until his retirement at age 72. His love of teaching and helping students is legendary. As a young man, Archie represented the United States in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and won gold and silver medals in track and field. Archie graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in mechanical engineering and then went on to earn his private pilot license before becoming an instructor at the Tuskegee Institute. He then attended the Air Force Institute of Technology where he earned a BS in engineering sciences. Archie joined the US Air Force as a pilot, retiring in 1964 after 22 years of service.
